Fall 2025 Orthodox Curriculum

online Course List and Enrolment Form for Fall 2025 Orthodox Curriculum

Brethren and fathers, God, who fashioned us and brought us out of non-existence into being, has placed us in this life as in a schoolroom to learn to gospel of his kingdom.”

— St. Theodore the Studite, † 826 AD

Atlantic tides crash against the rocky West coast of Ireland with the islands of Friar and High visible in the distance. The fractal, shallow nature of the Irish West Coast, full of submerged boulders, extensive shoals, and violent tidal fluctuations, makes it a terrible place for boats (the Spanish Armada sank here in 1588), but a great place for learning

We are delighted to announce an online curriculum for the Fall 2025. Following our Survey of Interest and Educational Workshop, this course offering will be our first, and we are looking forward to see how it progresses. Please enrol for classes below. Additional course details are listed at the bottom of the page.

For our first in-person event of the Fall 2025, Iconographer Martin Rybacki will lecture about the spiritual side of creating icons.

Online Course List in Detail

Please note that Saint Patrick Orthodox Mission is not sponsoring these online courses directly. We are merely facilitating the organisation of these courses through consolidating a list of possible classes, surveys of interest, and the networking of potential students and teachers. Any fees would be paid directly to the teacher in private transactions. Our Fall 2025 Curriculum includes the following online classes:

Catechism Classes

We will begin Orthodox Catechism classes for both adults and children. The catechism class for adults welcomes both those who are interested in Orthodoxy and those Orthodox who wish to better understand their faith.

  • Adult Catechism, led by Fr. Robert Williams. In 2017, Fr. Robert earned a distance-learning Certificate and Diploma of Orthodox Studies through the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies, Cambridge. A few years later, in the Cathedral of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, Munich, Metropolitan Mark (Arndt) ordained him a Deacon in 2020, and Priest in 2023. With his family, he moved to Ireland in 2023 to found the Saint Patrick Orthodox Mission in Clifden, Ireland. Cost: Free.
    • Thursday 8 pm: https://meetings.dialpad.com/room/williams1000
  • Children’s Catechism, age 8-12, monthly, led by Matushka Anastasia Williams. Mat. Anastasia, wife of Fr. Robert, grew up in a large Orthodox family in Virginia, USA. She earned a Masters of Education from George Mason University in 2009. After raising their family for 14 years in Munich, Germany, they then moved to Ireland in 2023. Here, she helps run the Saint Patrick Orthodox Mission in Clifden, Ireland. Cost: Free.
Kosten: Frei.
An Orthodox Book Club
  • Book Club: Christian Literature from an Orthodox Perspective. Meeting online monthly, the book club will examine the Orthodox merits of Christian authors such as Lewis, Tolkein, and Dostoyevsky. With the good advice of Saint Basil the Great, the goal will be to understand our literary heritage in the proper context of the Orthodox Faith. Cost: Free.
    • 1st Tuesday of Month at 8 pm: https://meetings.dialpad.com/room/williams1000
Foreign Language Literacy Classes

We are developing several Foreign Language Literacy classes such as Romanian, Russian, and German. These classes would help students from foreign backgrounds develop literacy skills in their mother tongue, with the goal of passing higher level language examinations, such as part of their secondary school degree (Leaving Certificate or A-Level examination).

  • Romanian Literacy, potential, TBA.
Supplemental Academic Classes
  • Introduction to Latin, ages 9-14, taught by Anna Grünert. From Switzerland, Ms. Grünert earned her BA and MA degrees in patristics at the Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University for the Humanities, Moscow. She then completed a PhD on the Homilies on the Psalms by Basil of Caesarea. Cost: 5€ per hour/student.
  • Physics for Kids, ages 8-12, once a week, taught by Kamila Murat. In 2022, Mrs Murat obtained her Bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Quantum Physics at the University of Hamburg with the thesis, ‘Efficient RF evaporative cooling of rubidium atoms up to Bose-Einstein condensation.’ Cost: 5€ per hour/participant.
  • Shakespeare for Secondary School, Advanced English, taught by Rory McQuillan. Thoughtful and widely-versed in classical literature, Mr. Macmillian, with his family, attends the parish of Saint John of Shanghai in Belfast. His extensive research into the Irish Orthodox Saints, such as our local Saint Féchín, features in his books as well as his blog. Cost: 5€ per hour/student.
